The United States was pleased to work with the Director General and other partner countries in this multilateral forum to ensure that regional celebrations of World Philosophy Day – as that at UNESCO headquarters – serve as an opportunity to make philosophical reflection accessible to all (professors and students, scholars and the general public, people of all ages), thereby expanding the opportunities and spaces for critical thinking and debate.

We also hope that all participants in World Philosophy Day around the globe pay due respect to philosophers, teachers, and other thinkers who exercise and defend freedom of expression every day, even in countries whose governments try to exploit such events for political purposes as they repress the opinions and ideas of their own people.
